Vietnamese History and Vietnamese Language Class Draws 40 Participants at Edenvale Library Buổi Học Lịch Sử Việt Nam và Lịch Sử Tiếng Việt Thu Hút 40 Học Viên Tại Thư Viện Edenvale

On Sunday morning, December 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, more than 40 participants of all ages—from local high schools and regional Scout groups—joined a special Vietnamese History and Vietnamese Language learning session hosted at the Edenvale Library Community Room.

The class was led by Professor Hoàng Cơ Định, who delivered an engaging Vietnamese-language lecture on the history of Việt Nam and the evolution of the Vietnamese language. Students listened attentively and asked thoughtful questions throughout the presentation.

Following the lecture, the youth enjoyed a lively quiz game with prizes, including boba gift cards and T-shirts printed with the meaningful message: “Tiếng Việt còn, Dân Việt còn.”

A highlight of the event was the special attendance of Westminster School District Board Member Thế Thủy, who traveled from Southern California to support the program. She shared insights about her district’s bilingual education initiatives and expressed her hope that school districts with large Vietnamese student populations—such as those in San Jose—would work toward establishing similar programs. She encouraged families and community members to actively advocate for bilingual Vietnamese programs.
Ms. Thế Thủy also presented two gifts to Professor Hoàng Cơ Định and Ms. Queenie Ngô in recognition of their efforts.

Adding to the warm atmosphere, a group of Santa Teresa High School students surprised the audience with an impromptu performance of cheerful Vietnamese songs. Their participation was made possible thanks to the dedication of Vietnamese language teacher Pauline Nguyễn, who encouraged her students to attend and learn these songs together.

During the quiz segment, one student named Duy shared a heartfelt personal story about why he is living in the United States, while another young participant spoke fluently in Vietnamese about why learning the Vietnamese language is important to her.

For many young people, a Sunday morning could have been spent sleeping in or going out with friends. Instead, they chose to attend a session on a topic that some might assume is dry or unexciting. Their commitment brought tremendous encouragement to the organizers from Dân Trí and Organization of Anonymous Contributors (OAC).

Special thanks go to all OAC volunteers who attended, brought refreshments, and helped capture memorable photos. Gratitude is also extended to the parents and grandparents who drove the students, to teacher Pauline Nguyễn of Santa Teresa High School, and to Scout leaders who supported the event.

These quiet acts of dedication may seem simple, but their impact will be long-lasting for our community.

Sáng Chủ Nhật ngày 7 tháng 12, 2025, từ 10:00 AM đến 12:00 PM, hơn 40 học viên thuộc mọi lứa tuổi—gồm các em học sinh trung học và các em trong Nhóm Hướng Đạo—đã đến tham dự buổi học đặc biệt về Lịch sử Việt Nam và lịch sử tiếng Việt tại thư viện Edenvale.

Buổi học do thầy Hoàng Cơ Định thuyết trình hoàn toàn bằng tiếng Việt, mang đến cho các em cái nhìn sâu sắc về lịch sử nước Việt và tiến trình hình thành tiếng Việt. Các em chăm chú lắng nghe và đặt những câu hỏi rất ý nghĩa.

Sau phần bài giảng là màn đố vui có thưởng vô cùng hào hứng với phần quà là phiếu mua trà sữa và áo thun in thông điệp ý nghĩa: “Tiếng Việt còn, Dân Việt còn.”

Buổi học còn vinh dự đón tiếp sự hiện diện đặc biệt của Uỷ viên Học Khu Westminster Thế Thủy từ miền Nam California. Cô chia sẻ về chương trình song ngữ của học khu mình và bày tỏ mong muốn các học khu có đông học sinh gốc Việt—như ở San Jose—sẽ có được chương trình tương tự. Cô kêu gọi phụ huynh và cộng đồng hãy mạnh dạn advocate để mang chương trình này về cho thế hệ trẻ.
Cô cũng gửi tặng hai món quà đến thầy Hoàng Cơ Định và cô Queenie Ngô để tri ân những đóng góp của họ.

Một tiết mục dễ thương và đầy bất ngờ đến từ các em học sinh của trường trung học Santa Teresa: các em tự phát trình bày những bài hát Việt Nam vui nhộn, mang lại không khí ấm áp, trẻ trung cho cả hội trường. Đằng sau thành công đó là sự khuyến khích tận tâm của cô giáo Việt ngữ Pauline Nguyễn, người đã hướng dẫn và động viên các em tham dự.

Trong phần đố vui, em Duy đã xúc động chia sẻ lý do vì sao em có mặt tại đất nước Hoa Kỳ, và một em nữ khác đã trình bày rất lưu loát bằng tiếng Việt lý do vì sao em phải học và gìn giữ tiếng Việt của mình.

Vào một buổi sáng Chủ Nhật, các em có thể ngủ nướng hoặc đi chơi, nhưng các em lại chọn đến tham dự một chủ đề tưởng chừng khô khan. Điều này thật sự là một nguồn động lực lớn cho những người tổ chức thuộc nhóm Dân Trí và OAC.

Xin chân thành cảm ơn các anh chị em thiện nguyện viên OAC đã tham dự, mang bánh trái, trà nước và chụp hình lưu niệm. Cám ơn quý phụ huynh, ông bà đã chở các em đến tham dự; cám ơn cô giáo Pauline Nguyễn của trường Santa Teresa và các anh chị trưởng trong nhóm Hướng Đạo.

Đây là những việc làm âm thầm nhưng tác động sẽ lan tỏa rất lâu dài trong cộng đồng chúng ta.
